Bretby’s new team members are wild about worms
07 May 2009
Planters at Bretby garden centre has just announced two new additions to the team. Around 30 centimetres tall, they’re brown and feathery and love to scratch around their run.
They are of course hens. Planters at Bretby Garden centre Manager Nick Fairbrother told us: “We’ve had a tremendous response from our Grow Your Own event and sales on vegetable seeds have been incredible.
“It’s the same with eggs, most people would like to buy the free range option but cost is often a deciding factor, so we’ve brought our two feisty feathered friends on board to show customers just how easy it is to have their very own delicious, nutritious, freshly laid eggs. And pardon the pun… they’re cheap!” he added: “Our hens are already laying so who knows, you may be lucky enough to enjoy one in our restaurant”.
One thing that the new arrivals don’t have is names, so Nick is organising a competition to name the hens and the winner will receive a super prize.
To enter the Bretby ‘Name the hens’ competition youngsters can fill in an entry form in store.
