The tide is turning for the better at Bretby beach
23 July 2009
New visitors to Bretby Garden Centre could be forgiven for thinking they’d taken a wrong turn and ended up at the sea-side.
With soaring summer temperatures and clear blue skies, the crowds have been flocking to Bretby beach.
Bretby beach? If you’ve never heard of it, chances are you don’t own a garden, because this stretch of clean, soft, golden sand is proving to be a big hit with families from far and near.
The brainchild of manager Nick Fairbrother, he told us: “Bretby beach is about as far from the sea as you can get but it’s nice and near to lots of homes in the area, so families come and play here instead of getting in their cars and driving for two hours to get to the sea side, so it’s good for the environment as well”.
And you don’t need to come laden with buckets and spades, they’re all free and so are diggers and deckchairs and of course there’s plenty of ice-cream, cake and cups of tea available in the restaurant.
Next time you’re considering the dreaded journey to the seaside, take your family to Bretby beach instead. It’s the beautiful beach at the heart of the countryside and no jellyfish - guaranteed. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that the sun will continue to shine.
