What advice could you give to keep my lawn looking good all year round?
Nick’s tips for a perfect lawn: Keeping your lawn looking like Wimbledon takes a lot of dedication, but you can achieve fantastic results if you follow these simple guide lines:
Spring Make your first cut around Mid March, but set the blade high, lowering the blade as you mow more frequently, until you reach once a week around mid April. Apply a combined weed killer and fertiliser dressing such as Evergreen Complete, or Verdone Extra for tough and persistent weeds. Sow new lawns now.
Summer You can now mow twice a week, except in hot, dry weather, when mowing should be restricted to a minimum, with the blade raised, to avoid scorching.
Autumn This is the busiest period in lawn care, when you will reap the reward for all your hard work the following year. Sow lawns in September and scarify in October. You should also spike the lawn to improve the drainage. Apply lawn food such as Evergreen Autumn Lawn Food, also use sand and moss killer to reduce the growth of moss next season.
Winter The basic rule must be STAY OFF. Walking on frosted lawns will mean you get black footprints once the thaw happens. However, you can mow lightly in mild areas.
